New Heavyweights from Rapp Hydema AS
Recently, and in strong competition, Rapp Hydema landed the delivery contracts for two huge winch systems for Saipem America.
The winches, of type”abandonment and recovery” are the main tools on two dynamic positioning vessels, each 280 feet overall, planned for delivery to the Gulf area at the turn of the month March-April. The main job of these massive units is to deploy subsea installations, as heavy as 100 metric tones, onto the seabed, almost 3500 metres below the surface, and perform other lifting operations connected with the process.
”It stands to reason that the winches needed to handle such an operation have to be humongous, and they each weigh 62 tonnes, are almost 5 metres wide, 6 metres long, and stand 3 metres tall,” says Product Manager Werner Bale of Rapp Hydema AS.
